Attiki Odos is the first major co-financed motorway project in Greece which was realised through a Concession Contract and was constructed with pioneer methods in accordance with international standards.

It is a modern closed motorway of 65 kilometres with 3 traffic lanes and one emergency lane per direction, interchanges, road and railway bridges, tunnels and toll stations. The motorway crosses densely populated areas of the Athens metropolitan area connecting 30 municipalities.

The company Attikes Diadromes S.A. which has undertaken the operation and maintenance of the Attiki Odos motorway monitors traffic through the Traffic Management Centre while patrol teams directly detect and deal with any incident on a 24-hour basis. At the same time, regular maintenance secures the quality of the motorway infrastructures.

In Attiki Odos a modern toll system operates which offers the option of electronic passages.
Attiki Odos motorway considerably reduced traffic congestion within the capital while it contributed to the development of the physical and urban planning within the Attica Prefecture.

Above all, Attiki Odos set new quality standards for road transportation in Greece and changed the everyday life of thousands of people in Attica. Driving in Attiki Odos was a new experience for drivers thanks to the high quality of construction, operation and maintenance and the politeness and willingness of the people of Attiki Odos.

The pioneer construction, the care for the environment, the proper operation and the pioneer technologies in combination with the human factor, are sectors which received international recognition and awards while they have marked Attiki Odos as a model project leading the way for other major projects realised in Greece.
