Attiki Odos motorway operates with the aim to upgrade the quality of life of us all, contributing benefits to the Environment, the Society and the Human Being.

Environment

  • Flora and fauna
More than 1,000,000 plants were planted, the landscape in the cut & cover sections was restored, the "green zones" of the motorway were enriched while the local fauna was protected. The green areas are maintained on a daily basis by specialised personnel.
  • Flood protection
The drainage and flood protection works realised during the construction phase of the project contribute to the flood protection of the capital.
  • Reforestation and Regeneration of Quarries
Thanks to the morphological and environmental regeneration of old quarries, new green areas have been created.
  • Recycling
All waste materials by the operation of the offices and the operation of the motorway itself are given for recycling.
  • Limitation of air pollution / noise pollution
The decongestion of the central road axles has resulted in the limitation of air pollution while special noise barriers and acoustic zones protect against noise pollution.

Society and Culture

  • Contribution to road safety
With the belief that road safety is a matter of education, Attiki Odos organises educational activities while it supports similar actions and collaborations. The activities include:

  • Contribution to local society / Sports and recreation facilities
The best use of urban cut & cover sections into sports and recreation facilities smoothly incorporates the motorway into the built-up and natural environment.
  • Support to the Municipal Cultural Activity
Within the framework of collaboration with the Municipalities of Attica, Attiki Odos supports various municipal festivals.
  • Creation of Archaeological Museum
The greatest excavation ever performed in the Attica basin brought to light a big variety of findings which were handed over to the archaeological authority.
  • Contribution to scientific research
The publication of the old maps of Johann August Kaupert constitutes significant contribution to the historical study of road networks of Attica, since it is a useful tool for the study of the old road network of Athens.
